This July Skype advocates Richey Marshall and David Molofsky took on all the cosplay madness that was the London Film & Comic Con, bringing sci-fi fans along for the ride through a Skype group chat. If you didn’t get a chance to see it all live, here are the highlights…
Richey’s first mission was to simply find David. Seems simple enough, right? Not necessarily when you’re surrounded by thousands of other cosplayers, you’ve never met the guy, and he’s dressed in costume. He got there though!
The two then set each other challenges to find random cosplayers to take selfies with, as well as shots from around the convention to share with everyone at home through Skype on mobile.
For Richey the highlight was meeting Marvel’s Spider-Man writer, Dan Slott. “I’m a huge fan so this was a real geek-out moment for me! Not only did I get a comic book signed, but I got my photo with him too. This is the great thing about comic conventions – they bring you so close to the people and things you love the most.”
David says that, all in all, it was a great convention peppered with Jared Leto-style jokers, a balloon Yoshi, mischievous minions and much cosplay.
“But we got to meet more than just talented cosplayers. Among the many awesome things we did, we got to have a great chat with the folks behind Feel The Force Day, a charity that puts on a film and TV convention for disabled and sensory impaired people. It was a truly great moment for me, and thanks to Skype IM, we could bring the Skype world in on the conversation, too.”
